SELF-GUIDED & ESCORTED RIDES

For the 2019UCNR, we do have a selection of self-guided and ride leader led rides on bitumen roads. All ride sheets are available from Rides Desk at Rally Information Stand (at end of Betting Ring).

Departure Point:             All rides will depart from the Mornington Steeples carpark (located cnr Mornington-Tyabb Road & Racecourse Road).  Riders are expected to attend the ride briefing 15 minutes prior to departure time.  Riders are to ensure that their motorcycles are fully fuelled prior to the ride briefing.

We have included a mix of destinations and distances, so everyone will be able to sample all of the fabulous experiences that the Mornington Peninsula and surrounding regions has to offer.

All LED (road & adventure) rides will need to be booked in advance.  There will be limited numbers for each of the rides to ensure everyone’s safety.  Bookings can be made at the Rides Desk, Rally Information Stand.  Rides will be held on Tuesday to Friday inclusively.  Monday is only for bookings.   Rides will depart from the departure point stated above.

LED RIDES

Phillip Island – Full Day Ride - Ride Distance approximately 280 km.  The ride will explore the swamp and hills areas around Westernport Bay as it makes its way onto ‘The Island’ and will circumnavigate it, visiting The GP track, the Nobbies, Cowes and Rhyll and return following the coast of Westernport Bay.

Mirboo – Full Day Ride – Ride Distance approximately 330 km.  The ride will explore swamp area around Westernport Bay and head up onto the Grand Ridge area.  Lunch will be at the Grand Ridge Brewery (you may wish to arrange shipping of some samples back to your location).  The ride will continue to explore the ridge and making its way back to Mornington.

Noojee – Full Day Ride – Ride Distance approximately 300 km. The ride will travel through the hills over the Grand Ridge and on to Noojee.  Lunch will be at ‘The Toolshed’ in Noojee, a hotspot for motorcyclists and other tourists travelling through the North Gippsland region.  The ride will explore the area before making its way back to Mornington.

Great Ocean Road – Full Day Ride – Ride Distance approximately 340 Km. Ride will leave Mornington early to catch the 08:00 Queenscliff Ferry.  The ride will meet leaders from the Geelong Group and will travel through the Otway Ranges and meet the coast at Lavers Hill. It will travel back towards Torquay on the Iconic Great Ocean Road, visiting Bells Beach along the way, before returning to the Ferry terminal.

Shipwreck Coast – Long Full Day Ride – Ride Distance approximately 390 Km.  Ride will leave Mornington early to catch the 07:00 Queenscliff Ferry.  The ride will meet leaders from the Geelong Group and will travel through the Otway Ranges arriving at the coast at Peterborough.  It will then travel back towards Lavers Hill along the Shipwreck Coast passing the tourist hot spots carved out of the coastal cliffs and on to the Ferry terminal.

The Dandenongs – Short Day Ride – Ride Distance approximately 190 Km.  The ride will travel through the outer Eastern Suburbs to Mount Dandenong, with its exceptional views of Melbourne, for lunch, returning in the afternoon.

Peninsula Explorer – Short Day Ride - Ride Distance approximately 180 Km. The ride will tour the Mornington Peninsula down to the Port Phillip Heads and along the Westernport Bay coast up to Hastings for lunch, returning via Arthurs Seat.

Classic Style Ride – Short Ride - Ride Distance approximately 95 Km.  The ride will tour the immediate area of the peninsula around Mornington, visiting ‘Classic Style Motorcycles’ and Arthurs Seat for lunch.

For all road users’ safety, you are requested to travel at the same speed as the ride leader.  

Organised tours 

Will there be organised tours for those tired of riding?
Yes, perhaps mostly for the ladies, but gentlemen are most welcome as well.

ADVENTURE RIDES (Dirt Roads)

We have planned a number of dirt road adventure bikes rides.  Note: Ordinary road tyres are not acceptable, safety-wise, for these rides. Details about the Rides, including the adventure riding rating table and Bookings, are to be made at Rides Desk.  Rides will depart from the departure point stated above.

Marysville via Acheron Way – easy to moderate rating. Mornington to Berwick then dirt roads to morning tea stop at Gembrook. Across to Launching Place and back road to Mt Donna Buang, then down Acheron Way cutting across on some tracks to Marysville for late lunch.

Mirboo North – easy ride. Cruising the back roads of Gippsland with a visit to Mt Worth and stopping at Mirboo North for lunch.

Gembrook State Forest – difficult rating. Ride leader on DRZ400 with knobbies – suit experienced rider. A technical ride on some steep and rutted tracks. Stopping at Gembrook bakery for morning tea and buy lunch (which we will eat on the tracks).

Leaflets will be available for various self-guided rides from the Rides Desk and you can choose when you go for your ride but allow time to spend at the attractions.

GRAND PARADE

ASSEMBLY POINT

The Parade will assemble in the Peninsula Community Theatre carpark, cnr Nepean Hwy and Wilsons Rd, Mornington from 7.00am to 9.00am.  The area will be closed to all other traffic.  This departure point, and the arrival area, are a mixture of solid and grassed areas, please ensure you have a side stand support (puck) with you.

FORM-UP INSTRUCTIONS

Members must form up early, please follow the Marshalls’ instructions and form rows as directed so that we can fit the anticipated number of bikes into the designated area.  Security will be on hand to assist with marshalling.  Departure order will be the same as arrival order, therefore, if you wish to ride near the front of the parade, you must form up early on the Marshalls’ directions.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

Helmets must be worn in the Parade.  “High Fives” and throwing lollies, etc. to kids is not permitted, however lots of noise is highly encouraged.  The Parade will be under Victoria Police control and it is IMPORTANT that we do not exceed 2 lanes wide to allow for police or emergency vehicles to use the remainder of road should that be necessary. 

PARADE DISTANCE AND ROUTE

The Grand Parade will start from the Peninsula Community Theatre carpark, from Wilsons Road, turning left into Nepean Highway.  The procession will then turn left into Main Street and travel along Main Street and turn left into the Esplanade and travel south to the round-a-bout at the intersection of the Esplanade with Barkly Street / Wilsons Road.  The procession will then proceed around the round-a-bout to travel back along the Esplanade and left into Schnapper Point Drive into and around Mornington Park where an official Civic Welcome Ceremony will be conducted. Overall distance of parade is 4.5km.   Parking at end point will be controlled by Marshalls.  Please follow their instructions.

ORDER OF PARADE

The National Committee Members, the Organising Team members and the Ulysses Club AGM Scrutineers will lead the Parade.  Marshalls will direct you to form two abreast as you leave the assembly area.  This will be the riding format through to the finish point.  Riders will be directed to parking bays by the Marshalls.  Multiple parking areas are being used at conclusion of the Parade, including specific disabled area with easy access to Mornington Park.

The TAC Grand Parade:

Motorcycles will gather at The Peninsula Community Theatre Carpark Cnr Nepean Hwy & Wilsons Rd, Mornington prior to 9.00am which is the scheduled starting time for the Grand Parade and travel along Wilsons Road turning left into Nepean Highway.  The procession will then turn left onto Main Street and travel along Main Street and turn left into the Esplanade and travel south to the round-a-bout at the intersection of the Esplanade with Barkly Street and Wilsons Road.  The procession will then proceed around the round-a-bout to travel back along the Esplanade and left into Schnapper Point Drive into and around Mornington Park where the official Welcome and Civic Ceremony will be conducted.
The TAC Grand Parade finishes right on the beachfront at Mornington Park.  There are cafes & pubs in the main street of Mornington which is adjacent to the finishing point.
